Snowmobile enforcement checkpoints scheduled
Snowmobile enforcement checks are being conducted by the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department at various locations along snowmobile trails in Cavalier, Pembina and Walsh counties from Jan. 30 through Feb. 1.
The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department is charged with enforcement of the state snowmobile regulations and safety on more than 3,400 miles of snowmobile trails. The purpose of the checkpoint is to review snowmobile registrations, proof of liability insurance, operator’s current driver’s license or snowmobile safety certification card if the person doesn’t have a driver’s license.
In two previous checkpoints, the first near Fort Ransom and second near Casselton, more than 300 snowmobiles were checked and 23 violations were written. Most infractions were for failure to have or show proof of a North Dakota registration or Out-of-State Trails and Lands Access Permit. All North Dakota registrations are required to be displayed on both sides of the snowmobile in a visible place. Register a snowmobile at all North Dakota Department of Transportation, Motor Vehicle Division offices.
