GRAND FORKS (AP) — Authorities from four counties, a farmer and the Border Patrol helped rescue a Grand Forks couple after they got lost in Steele County.
Miky Telbis said he and his wife, Manuela, got stuck in a snow-filled ditch after they got lost while looking for a new home Tuesday night.
Steele County Sheriff Wayne Beckman said the couple followed the directions from their Global Positioning System mapping, but he said it does not always work in rural areas.
Grand Forks deputies called Steele County. Deputies from Nelson and Griggs counties joined in. The Border Patrol sent a helicopter.
Officials said Telbis walked up a hill so his cell phone could serve as a beacon. The helicopter spotted the couple about 9:30 p.m., about nine miles west of Hatton. Farmer Knut Thorsgard pulled out their car.
Beckman said the couple and their two dogs were fine.
