Optimist Club cites top athletes

Amber Ramlo, Willy Marler, Chasen Miller, Tani Ader and Byron Jones have been named Athletes of the Week by the Jamestown Optimist Club. Ramlo, a senior on the Blue Jay basketball team, scored 30 points on 14 of 30 shooting in games against No. 5 Mandan and No. 3 Bismarck last week. Ramlo also had 12 rebounds, six assists, four blocked shots and three steals as the fourth-ranked Blue Jays beat the Braves and fell to the Demons.

Ramlo, a senior on the Blue Jay basketball team, scored 30 points on 14 of 30 shooting in games against No. 5 Mandan and No. 3 Bismarck last week. Ramlo also had 12 rebounds, six assists, four blocked shots and three steals as the fourth-ranked Blue Jays beat the Braves and fell to the Demons.

Marler, a freshman swimmer for the Blue Jays, won the 100 and 200 freestyles in a dual against Williston. He also placed third in the 50 and second in the 100 at the Blue Jay Invite. His time in the 50 was .04 off the school record. He also swam the anchor legs of the second-place 200 free relay team and eighth-place 400 relay team.

Miller, a sophomore swimmer for the Blue Jays, won the 500 free in a dual against Williston and then placed third in the same event at the Blue Jay Invite. He also swam on the eighth-place 400 relay team, posting season-best times in each event.

Ader, a freshman from Kalitti, Hawaii, on the Jimmie women’s wrestling team, went 4-0 at the WCWA National Wrestling tournament to become the school’s first national champion. Ader won the 59 kg/130-pound weight class, leading the Jimmies to a fourth-place finish.

Jones, a sophomore from Glenarden, Md., on the JC men’s basketball team, had 21 points and two steals in the Jimmies’ win over Valley City State. He was 3-for-5 from three-point range and 12-for-14 from the line.
