Letter to the editor: Support SB 2278 to protect our neighbors

Well, here I go again. I am writing in support of North Dakota Senate bill SB-2278. I would like to start by inviting those who disagree with me to respectfully do so, but not to anticipate any further rebuttal.
Remember in the Feb. 4 article on the matter that Rep. Kathy Hawken said it was sad that we need a law at all? Yes, it is sad. However, our society has proven that it is necessary. It is not OK for employers to discriminate against non-hetero peoples. Discrimination is wrong at every level— Jesus of Nazareth taught us that in great detail. When one community is hurt continuously, we have the responsibility to protect them.
Frankly, everyone’s sexuality is their own business. If that business is shared, treat it with respect — we are talking about God’s unique creation here, not a multi-level moral society. SB-2278 will not force anyone to accept what he or she considers immoral behavior, but it will help all North Dakotans gain access to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
