First Baptist Church in Jamestown is hosting the couple’s movie night with free childcare at 7 p.m. Feb. 12-13 where the movie “Fire Proof” will be shown.

“‘Fire Proof’ deals with a range of marital issues in a way that has been helping marriages since the movie hit theaters,” said Shannon Cozby, First Baptist’s secretary. “Many churches around the U.S. are hosting movie events, because they see a real need in their communities, and are responding to it. We want to be a part of that for Jamestown.”

First Baptist will follow the movie event with its 10:30 a.m. Sunday service Feb. 15 devoted to what it is calling the “love dare challenge.” It will be offering the book “The Love Dare,” a New York Times bestseller, to couples interested in taking a 40-day challenge to better their marriages. “The Love Dare” focuses on the individual’s ability to lead his/her own heart while teaching about the design, nature and source of true love.

“Using this book as a couple for a full 40 days will help us to more fully understand how to love God completely, others compassionately, and ourselves correctly. Better marriages will be the result,” said Wayne Bangs, First Baptist senior pastor. He said anyone with a perfect marriage should not consider coming.

“Perfect people are not allowed at First Baptist,” said Bangs.

Church officials said they want to point people to Jesus by addressing practical needs in the community.

“Our hope, as with everything we do, is to ultimately glorify Jesus Christ. How better to do that than meet people right where they’re at, in the center of their need,” Cozby said.
