One unit of the Jamestown Fire Department was dispatched as a precautionary measure today to a gas leak at 4104 Highway 281 S. after construction crews broke a gas line, said Jim Reuther, Jamestown fire chief.
Reuther described the location as six miles south of Jamestown on U.S. Highway 281. Crews from Montana Dakota Utilities had shot off the gas after the line was struck. Five Jamestown firefighters stayed on the scene until MDU declared the situation completely under control.
Reuther said the unit was dispatched at 9:34 a.m. and returned to quarters at 10:10 a.m. The Jamestown Rural Fire Department was also on standby during the incident. City fire crews responded despite the location being outside Jamestown city limits because of their special training in dealing with hazardous materials such as natural gas.
