On average, the SHSND makes $130,000 available to the public for use in historic preservation. Historic preservation funds may be used toward preservation, restoration and rehabilitation projects for properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Grants have also been awarded for producing National Register nominations, conducting cultural resource surveys and archaeological test excavations.
Past projects include the National Register nomination of Fort Abercrombie State Historic Site, rehabilitation grants to the First State Bank of Buxton, N.D., the Grand Forks Masonic Temple and the James Memorial Center in Williston, N.D.
Comments should be sent by March 13 to Amy Munson, the grants and contracts officer for the SHSND, for consideration on the priority projects’ list for 2009. Comments should be mailed to: Amy Munson, SHSND Grants and Contracts Officer, North Dakota Heritage Center, 612 East Boulevard Avenue, Bismarck, ND 58505, or e-mailed to amunson@nd.gov.
