Williston girl crowned at capitol
Serena Christianson, a Williston native, was crowned Miss State Capitol on Saturday at Simle Middle School in Bismarck. Christianson is a junior at Jamestown College, majoring in hospitality and tourism management and communication. She is also pursuing a Character in Leadership minor. Currently she is employed as a Jimmie Ambassador and admissions student assistant for Jamestown College. She is the daughter of Jon and Beverly Christianson of Williston.

Christianson’s platform issue is titled “Worth the Wait,” empowering students that they are worth waiting for sex until marriage. She will be performing her award-winning, self-choreographed tap dance to “Pink Panther Remix” for her talent. Christianson will now advance to the Miss North Dakota Scholarship Pageant to be held June 11-13 in Williston.
Since being crowned, Christianson will be fundraising for the Children’s Miracle Network, which partnered together with the Miss America Organization in January 2007. Contestants at all levels already choose a platform issue that they are passionate about to promote during their reign. Because of this new partnership, representatives of the Miss America Organization across the nation are ambassadors for their individually-chosen platforms and also for the Children’s Miracle Network. The funds raised not only help the Children’s Miracle Network the Miss America Scholarship Fund also benefits from this philanthropy.
