FARGO (AP) — A doctor says a Mahnomen County sheriff's deputy shot who was shot in the head is making remarkable progress and can now stand with some assistance.
Surgeon Robert Sticca says 26-year-old Chris Dewey's condition was upgraded Monday morning to satisfactory at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Sticca said Dewey is awake, talking and interacting with his family.
Dewey still has limited function of his left side, Sticca said.
Sticca said Dewey will still need at least one additional surgery to repair his skull, in addition to extensive rehabilitation.
Dewey was shot in the head and the abdomen Wednesday morning while checking a report of shots fired in a neighborhood in Mahnomen. Two Twin Cities-area men face multiple charges.
