Many of the old favorites will be part of the North Dakota Winter Show when it opens its doors today in Valley City.
“Mostly we stay with the things that are tried and true,” said Nancy Allen, manager of the Winter Show. “But there are new ag seminars and we are accommodating some new entertainment and some new ideas.”
One of those new ideas is a change in the organization of the vendors in the main building. All the food vendors have been centered in one area with seating for the public.
Another thing that is new is the Amazing Horses Show on Thursday. The show includes “The Great Gladiator Chariot Race,” and tops off a day dedicated to horses of all types.
“We pretty much have a full house of vendors this year,” Allen said. “Many of those are new to the show as well.”
Old favorites include the world’s largest crop show, livestock shows for many breeds, an antique show and a rodeo.
“It is not new,” Allen said. “But we are once again having the “tough enough to wear pink,” rodeo show on Sunday.”
One section of the arena will offer family prices for the rodeo with seats priced at $8 for adults and $5 for children.
Allen also expects the women’s program to be popular this year.
“The women’s division should be a good one,” she said. “We’ve got a Buddy Holly tribute that recently sold out in Fargo.”
The 72nd annual Winter Show opens today and runs through Sunday. Parking and building admission are free. Prices for admission to the rodeo and concert, as well as a complete schedule of events, are available on the Web site www.northdakotawintershow.com.
