Bernice Guthmiller, 77, Jamestown, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Bernice Rose Hins was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Medina, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Emma (Kleingartner) Hins.
Bernice Guthmiller, 77, Jamestown, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown.
Bernice Rose Hins was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Medina, N.D., the daughter of Gottlieb and Emma (Kleingartner) Hins. She grew up and attended school in Medina, graduating from Medina High School. She was employed by JC Penney and Tempo in Jamestown. She married Leslie L. Guthmiller on June 12, 1955, in Medina. She was a waitress at the Parkway Café and a cook in the Jamestown Public School system, and for 20 years at Jamestown Hospital, where she retired from in 1994. She then worked as a volunteer at R.S.V.P. and Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center. She was also a substitute cook for Jamestown Public Schools. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, where she was active in circle and Bible studies and taught Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Deborah Kay Guthmiller and Charlotte Bernice Guthmiller, both Jamestown; a son, Stephen (Dawn), Jamestown; two sisters, Darlene (Gerhardt) Ellingson, Grace City, N.D., and Clara (Ralph) Fiechtner, Monango, N.D.; two stepsisters, Leona (Rueben) Klundt, Gackle, N.D., and Alice (Leroy) Buck, Streeter, N.D.; and two grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ardella Hins, Wanda Topp and Leona Walcker; her stepmother, Christina Miller Hins; and a stepbrother, Norman Miller.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with the Rev. Ruth Kaden officiating.
Prayer service: 7 p.m. Thursday, Eddy Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.
Visitation: 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, in the spring.
Memorials: in lieu of flowers, to the Alzheimer’s Association.
