Jimmies open season today in Nebraska

The Jamestown College softball team will open the 2009 season today in Hastings, Neb. The Jimmies will play five games in the Hastings Bronco Invitational today and Saturday.

The Jimmies will play five games in the Hastings Bronco Invitational today and Saturday.

Coming off a 21-20 season in which they finished fourth in the Dakota Athletic Conference, the Jimmies return six starters, including their entire infield. Jamestown College was picked fifth in the DAC preseason coaches’ poll.

Senior third baseman Kayla Price is coming off an all-conference season, and several other veterans return, including infielder Betsy Westermann and pitcher Kate Street.

Kimberly Smith, a transfer from Galveston College, is one of several newcomers who have looked good in preseason practice, along with freshmen Cassie Hite, Ashley Smoke and Heather Haegele.

JC will play three games today, taking on Dana (Neb.), Doane (Neb.) and Tabor (Kan.). JC will square off with Hastings and York (Neb.) tomorrow.

The Jimmies will head to Tucson next. They will play 12 games in six days from March 9-14, including a matchup with defending national champion Lubbock Christian on March 14.
