Esther Ruff, 92, Jamestown, died Friday, March 6, 2009, at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Center, Jamestown. Esther Krueger was born May 12, 1916, at the family farm five miles west of Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of John and Justine (Schad-ler) Krueger.

Esther Krueger was born May 12, 1916, at the family farm five miles west of Fredonia, N.D., the daughter of John and Justine (Schad-ler) Krueger. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew up in the area where she helped on the family farm. She married Rudolph Ruff on July 15, 1935, at Lehr, N.D. They lived in Guyson, N.D. They later moved to Fredonia, N.D. She was a housewife. They moved to Jamestown in 1997. They spent 15 winters in Lodi, Calif. He died in 2005. In January 2006 she entered Rock of Ages, Jamestown. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Jamestown.

She is survived by four daughters, Leona (Arven) Janke, Kulm, N.D., Joan (LeMore) Hehr, Gackle, N.D., Josephine (Larry) Bietz, Valley City, N.D., and Vivian Giannuzzi, Syracuse, N.Y.; a son, Charles, Fargo, N.D.; a sister, Mavis (Don) Phillips, Clark Fork, Idaho, a sister-in-law, Adeline Krueger, Bismarck, N.D.; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Leo, Oscar and Fred; and a sister, Emma.

Services: 1 p.m. Monday, Haut Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, with the Rev. Susan Lester officiating.

Visitation: none scheduled. Arrangements by Haut Funeral Homes, Jamestown.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown.
