FARGO (AP) — The Highway Patrol said a patient being transported by ambulance to a Fargo hospital was killed after the vehicle rolled on an icy stretch of Interstate 94 near Casselton.

Troopers said the driver and a paramedic were hurt in the crash shortly before 3 a.m. on Monday.

Troopers said the 66-year-old man, who has not been identified, was a passenger in an ambulance en route from the Carrington Health Center in Carrington to Fargo's Innovis Hospital.

Troopers said the driver of the ambulance, a 23-year-old woman, lost control of the vehicle and slid into the south ditch, where it overturned and struck an overhead sign.

The driver and 39-year-old male paramedic of the ambulance were taken to Innovis. The patient from the Carrington ambulance was pronounced dead at the hospital.
