A Fessenden, N.D., man died early this morning when a Carrington (N.D.) Health Center ambulance rolled on Interstate 94, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
The patrol said Brenda Lynn Schneider, 23, Carrington, was driving the 2000 Chevrolet ambulance eastbound on I-94 at about 2:56 a.m. today en route from Carrington Health Center to Innovis Hospital, Fargo. The road was icy because of light freezing rain in the area. Schneider lost control of the vehicle about two miles east of Casselton, N.D., and it slid into the south ditch, where it overturned and struck an overhead sign. The ambulance came to rest on its wheels.
Paramedic Michael John Parr, 39, Carrington, and patient Kenneth Lee Kandt, 66, Fessenden, were pas-sengers in the ambulance, the patrol said. All three occupants were taken by another ambulance to Innovis. Kandt was alive at the scene of the crash but was pronounced dead at the hospital. Schneider and Parr were treated for their injuries.
The patrol said Schneider was wearing a seat belt while Parr and Kandt were not.
The ambulance was totaled in the crash.
The accident is under investigation.
