GRAND FORKS (AP) — A Traill County bridge that’s believed to be among the oldest in North Dakota is slated for restoration.
The state Department of Transportation and the State Historical Society of North Dakota are working together on the $700,000 project to restore the Viking Bridge.
The bridge was built in 1885 over the Goose River, to link Mayville and Portland.
In 1915, the 110-foot iron bridge was replaced and moved upriver, north of Portland.
The project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration’s transportation enhancement program. Officials said construction could begin next year.
