Montpelier’s Heather Brown has signed a Dakota Athletic Conference letter of intent to play volleyball next fall for Jamestown College.

The 5-foot-11 senior middle hitter guided the Litchville-Marion-Montpelier Rebels to a fourth-place finish in the state Class B volleyball tournament last fall with an overall record of 22-2.

This past season, Brown recorded 232 kills, 66 blocks, 28 aces and 23 digs for the Rebels, and was selected as the 2008 District 5 Senior Athlete of the Year. Brown has been selected to the all-district team three times in her high school career.

“Heather is a terrific athlete and addition to our program. She is such an easy-going young lady who will fit in well with the team,” former Jamestown College head coach Chris Mahoney said. “Watching the success she and her team had this past year was especially exciting to see.

“Heather has worked hard to become a better volleyball player and I am excited of her decision to continue her career as a Jimmie.”

Brown recently helped the L-M-M girls’ basketball team to a record of 20-4 and a second-place finish in last month’s Region 3 tournament.

Brown’s volleyball coaches at L-M-M were Lynn Krueger and Victoria Haak. Her major is currently undecided.
