HILLSBORO, N.D. (AP) — A semi struck a woman outside her car after it got stuck in a blizzard on Interstate 29, killing her and injuring the sheriff who had stopped to help, authorities say.

The Highway Patrol said 20-year-old Cassandra Devaney, of Watertown, S.D., was dead at the scene of the crash about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, about eight miles north of Hillsboro.

The semi also struck the sport utility vehicle of Traill County Sheriff Mike Crocker, authorities said. Crocker was listed Wednesday in satisfactory condition at a Fargo hospital, with a concussion. Another officer with Crocker, Hillsboro Police Officer Laverne Aventi, was not injured.
