The 2009 edition of the Runnin O’ the Green most likely set a record for participation Saturday, according to event organizers.

Larry Knoblich said over 1,700 registration packets had been prepared in advance. All of those were used with volunteers also registering people with makeshift forms. Officials assume some people are participating but not registering. Overall estimates are at about 2,000 participants.

This compares to last year when more than 1,500 people registered.

Proceeds from the annual St. Patrick’s Day event, a run from bar to bar in Jamestown, are donated to patients with cancer and also to Camp Grassick, operated by the Elk’s Club.
