BISMARCK (AP) — Gov. John Hoeven says he has sent a National Guard jet to Nebraska to pick up an engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers who specializes in ice jam flooding.

Hoeven said Roger Kay, scheduled to arrive Monday night, will evaluate ice on the Missouri River and make recommendations for dealing with problems in the Fox Island area in Bismarck. Officials have recommended people leave that area as a precaution.

The Army Corps of Engineers said the river in the Bismarck area has jumped by 6 feet since Saturday.
