Realignment committee: End 3-class plans

The North Dakota High School Activities Association’s realignment committee will make a final recommendation on April 21 to put an end to the pursuit of a three-division system for basketball and volleyball, committee chair Jack Maus said Tuesday.
The NDHSAA board of directors is expected to make a decision on a three-division proposal at its April 21 board meeting in Valley City.
The five-member realignment committee, which was in charge of sifting through survey results from member schools, initially recommended the board end its pursuit of the three-division plan at a March 13 board meeting in Fargo.
However, the board voted 6-4 to continue with its existing timeline.
That decision gave the realignment committee a chance to meet with the 16 Class B district chairs last week in Minot.
“Nothing changed after talking with the district chairs,” said Maus, an NDHSAA board member from Grafton who represents Class B members in the northeast part of the state.
The high school association board in January proposed a three-division plan.
A recent survey of members showed opposition to a three-division plan holds an 87-76 majority.
