Art show seeks entries

The Arts Center in Jamestown is calling on all artists and would-be artists, of any age, to participate in the 45th Annual Jamestown Fine Arts Association Spring Art Show. Artists at any level, amateur, hobby or professional may enter up to three pieces in the show.

An entry form, with the show details, is available by calling the Arts Center at 701-251-2496,. It’s also available by emailing sjeppson@jamestownartscenter.org or going to the Web site at www.jamestownartscenter.org and clicking on Exhibits and then JFAA Annual Juried Show.

As in previous years, the exhibition will be juried for prizes, including a $100 grand prize. There are cash prize awards in various categories, painting, drawing, sculpture/3-D, youth, people’s choice, etc.

This year’s judge is Walter Piehl, Jr. a longtime Minot artist who is considered to be one of North Dakota’s most highly regarded artists. Piehl recently became one of three recipients of the Enduring Vision Award from the Bush Foundation. The award is one of the largest awards in the country — in size and intent — given to visual artists of distinction, who have at least 25 years of art practice and significant exhibition records. Piehl has been a professor of art at Minot State University since 1970. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Concordia College and a Master’s of Arts and Fine Arts degrees from the University of North Dakota.

The deadline for entry fees and registration forms is April 1. Artwork needs to arrive at the Arts Center by April 20.

The show dates are April 30 — May 30. The judging for prizes and reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. May 7. Walter Peihl will speak about the show at 6 p.m.
