One flood-affected Fido found dry ground Tuesday.

The dog belongs to an Adrian, N.D., family who was displaced because of last week’s overflowing James River.

Prairie Paws Rescue volunteers set up a temporary animal shelter in the former Jamestown Auto Center Sunday. The shelter can house up to 50 cats, 75 dogs and other small animals. Noah’s Ark Disaster Response Team, based out of California, helped with the cleaning and setup efforts.

Fargo and Bismarck already have animal shelters, said Kaye John, volunteer, so the Jamestown shelter will house animals from Jamestown and surrounding communities. So far the shelter is helping one pet, but John said she expects to see more.

“We’re just starting to see a lot of the down- stream flooding right now,” John said.

The shelter is also looking for volunteers to walk dogs, clean kennels and play with cats during daytime hours, John said.
