BISMARCK (AP) — An ambitious North Dakota Heritage Center expansion project might be getting $37 million in new support.
North Dakota’s Senate has agreed to put the money toward the project. It would be provided by state taxpayers and the federal government.
The bill now goes to the North Dakota House for more review.
Backers of the expansion say it will cost almost $52 million. Some of the money will be raised privately. The bill includes language encouraging the next Legislature to put more money into the project.
The expansion is supposed to include a theater, a cafe, children’s galleries, and a special display about the history of American Indians on the northern Plains. It would double the size of the present Heritage Center on the Capitol grounds.
The bill is HB1481.
