Indian heritage event planned

American Indian heritage and artistry will be celebrated during the 41st annual Kyi-Yo (KY’-oh) Celebration at The University of Montana on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — American Indian heritage and artistry will be celebrated during the 41st annual Kyi-Yo (KY’-oh) Celebration at The University of Montana on Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.

Events kick off with a grand entry featuring dancers in traditional dress at 6 p.m. Friday in the Adams Center.

This year’s theme is “Walking in Two Worlds.” The celebration features champion American Indian dancers and drummers from across the region. Dances that highlight different styles will be held throughout the weekend.

Additional grand entry events take place at noon and at 6 p.m. Saturday.

General admission is $5 Friday, $8 for all day Saturday and $5 for Saturday evening. Weekend passes can be purchased for $12.

Earl Old Person of Browning and Ruben Little Head of Lawrence, Kan., will serve as masters of ceremonies.
