The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a fire call Thursday afternoon at 1202 S. Riverside Drive, an apartment complex.

The fire department received the call at 2:45 p.m. and were on the scene for 30 minutes, said Jim Reuther, Jamestown Fire Department chief.

Reuther said a burner on the stove was left on and some plastics next to the stove were burnt, but there were no flames.

“Basically unattended cooking is the cause,” Reuther said.

By the time they arrived on the scene the building was evacuated, he said.

Twenty-seven firefighters were on the scene and fans were used to remove the smoke from the building, Reuther said.

There were no injuries, but there was some soot and paint damage and with cleanup it will cost about $1,000, Reuther said.
