BISMARCK (AP) — A measure that promotes American-made American flags has been reconsidered after the North Dakota House approved the wrong version of the bill.
As approved by the Senate, the bill says state and local governments cannot buy the Stars and Stripes unless the flag is made in the United States.
At one time, the measure included a provision that banned North Dakota merchants from selling American flags that were not made in America.
The Senate removed the restriction on merchants selling foreign-made American flags. But it was included in the version of the bill that the House approved Tuesday. The vote was 78-13 in favor.
At the request of Fargo Rep. Bette Grande, House members agreed later Tuesday to reconsider their earlier vote. Another vote on whether to approve the bill will be held later.
