The Governor’s Committee on Aging is inviting Dickey County and other area residents to attend a forum from 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. April 22, at the senior center, 67 First Ave. S. in Ellendale. The event is one of seven scheduled in communities across North Dakota this month featuring national and state experts on health promotion, disease prevention, and living and aging well and maintaining independence.

“The North Dakota Governor’s Forums on Aging are intended to be learning opportunities for seniors and others interested in aging issues,” said Amy Clark, committee chairman. “We are very pleased to welcome nationally recognized expert Dr. James Swan as the keynote speaker at the Ellendale forum.”

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a presentation on aging-related changes in eyes by Dr. Geoffrey Rath. Swan, a professor of gerontology at the University of North Texas and prolific re-searcher on aging issues, will give the keynote address on promoting health and preventing disease at 9:45 a.m. Other speakers will share information and observations about identity theft, insurance fraud, life wishes, and depression in the elderly.

Lunch will be served at noon; reservations are required. Contact the senior center at 701-349-4513 or dcsc213@yahoo.com by April 20. The forum is free. However, the lunch is a Title III meal, and a $3 contribution from those age 60 and older is suggested. The meal is $6 for others.

Sponsors include the committee and the North Dakota Department of Human Services Aging Services Division. Other forums are scheduled in Bismarck, Dickinson, Grand Forks, Lisbon, New Town and Rugby. For details see www.nd.gov/ dhs/info/pubs/docs/aging/2009-gov-committee-on-aging-forums.pdf
