Letter to the editor: Side with the workers, not the employment status quo

It’s no surprise that the Chamber of Commerce folks are writing letters in opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act. They are defending the status quo. The current broken economy made executives and big business owners very, very rich at the expense of the rest of us.
But what is surprising, or should be, is that some local businesses still think the Chamber of Commerce represents them. The EFCA doesn’t threaten small businesses, and if working people have a little more money in their pocket because they’re able to join a union, it will actually help them. You don’t have to be a genius to see this for what it is: big corporations protecting their interests at the expense of everyone else.
I support the Employee Free Choice Act because it’s time that workers, not just big executives, got a piece of the pie. I hope that our lawmakers in Washington will see the Chamber of Commerce’s actions for what they are and side with working North Dakotans instead.
