Guard officials said two Minnesota units came to the state and brought Chinooks and Black Hawk helicopters earlier this month. The Minnesota soldiers are among the first to be released as the floodfighting efforts wind down.

The Guard said about 1,400 North Dakota soldiers and airmen remain on duty, along with about 70 members of the U.S. Coast Guard and Minnesota and Wisconsin aviation units.

The Minnesota Guard units being recognized at ceremonies Thursday include the 146 soldiers of Company A, 2-135th Infantry and 113 soldiers of the 850th Engineer Company.
