Aircraft maker increases production

Cirrus Design Corp. says it will boost production in Duluth to six new airplanes per week, up from the previous three to four aircraft.

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Cirrus Design Corp. says it will boost production in Duluth to six new airplanes per week, up from the previous three to four aircraft.

It’s a sign that the aircraft market may have finally hit bottom and is now improving. Cirrus specializes in powerful single-engine planes that come equipped with parachutes.

Despite increasing production, Duluth-based Cirrus has no plans to recall a large number of its furloughed workers saying its operations are now more efficient.

The company issued a statement saying it hopes the recent improvement in domestic and international sales is only the first step, and that it continues in the next few months.
