Letter to the editor: Vote to make Jamestown a quieter, safer place

Now that Gov. John Hoeven has signed the bill for quiet zone funding, Jamestown needs to follow the lawmakers’ lead and vote Tuesday to eliminate the use of train whistles downtown.

Numerous upgrading and changes have occurred over the years at the railroad and this is one of them. The future is here now in being able to provide a safe and modern alternative to our community that is noise free.

It is very hard to hold a conversation or enjoy a meal in the area of the railroad tracks with six crossings and numerous trains running through each day. The noise is deafening, unnerving and seems to never end.

I worked for the railroad for 49 years with that whistle and now have severe hearing loss. I believe the train horns are obsolete and unnecessary.

Please vote with me in making Jamestown a safer and more quiet place to live.
