Jamestown’s Josh Wiest set a meet record at the Ray McDaniel Invite on Monday in Devils Lake.

The Blue Jays’ senior thrower broke the meet record in the shot put, heaving it 51-11 to win the event.

Wiest led the Jays to a fifth-place team finish with 64 points.

Jamestown sent a small group to the meet, but still had a number of scorers.

Tyler Mielke and Nathan Willer each had runner-up finishes for the JHS boys.

Mielke was second in the discus, spinning it 133-10 — second only to Carrington’s Devin Barton (143). Mielke, a junior, was also fourth in the shot put at 47-11.

Willer cleared 5-6 in the high jump to place second behind Dustin Ratzloff (5-8) of the host Firebirds.

In the 3200, JHS teammates Cory Goehner and Alec Redmann crossed back-to-back in times of 11:52.88 and 12:04.82 for fifth and sixth, respectively.

Matt Kopp scored in both hurdle races, coming in fifth in the 300 (49.48) and seventh in 110 (18.49).

Jakob Voight placed fifth in the pole vault, clearing 11-0.

Valley City won the team title with 126 points behind sprinter Derek Elliott, who won the 100 (11.03), 200 (22.87) and 400 (52.57). He also ran the anchor leg in the Hi-Liners’ winning 4x100 relay along with Kyle Fogarty, Aaron Mirtz and Jade Olstad.

The JHS girls got three runner-up efforts en route to 38 points. They too sent a limited list of competitors.

Kara Nygaard qualified in the high jump, getting over 5-1 for a second-place finish. Alicia Greening of Devils Lake won at 5-3. Nygaard, a junior, was also seventh in the triple (30-7.50).

Junior Kayla Schumacher had two top fives in the hurdle races, highlighted by her second-place time of 54.52 in the 300. She also was fifth in the 100 in 17.75.

In the mile, sophomore Marissa O’Neill finished just behind Carrington’s Amanda Ingergaard as the two went 1-2 in times of 6:00.84 and 6:01.52, respectively.

Charity Miller was a multi-placer, led by her fourth in the long jump at 15-8. She cleared 7-6 to come in seventh in the pole vault.

Thrower Kate Roscoe placed eighth in the javelin with a mark of 101-10.

Griggs County Central got wins from Kali Hook in the shot put (39-4) and in the mile relay (Kaila Lunde, Nicole Cross, Katie Hanson, Beth Jochim) to take the team title with 98 points.

The Blue Jays close out the regular season with consecutive home meets, hosting the Al Cassell Relays at 10 a.m. on Monday and the Last Chance Meet on Monday at 4 p.m. The West Region meet is set for May 16 at the Bismarck Community Bowl.
