Funds award to area groups

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $1 million in federal economic recovery funds to several North Dakota rural communities, Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and Rep. Earl Pomeroy, all D-N.D. announced Monday.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $1 million in federal economic recovery funds to several North Dakota rural communities, Sens. Kent Conrad and Byron Dorgan and Rep. Earl Pomeroy, all D-N.D. announced Monday. 

The funding will support essential services and first responder efforts in seven rural areas, including:

* Ashley Medical Center: $471,400

* Kulm Volunteer Fire Department: $75,000

* LaMoure County Courthouse: $305,000

The funding — totaling $1,071,450 — is provided through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program.

These grants were awarded by the USDA with funds appropriated by Congress through the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
