Jamestown area residents are urged to take caution after two vehicles were stolen and wrecked earlier this week, according to the Jamestown Police Department.
Police said a 2001 Dodge pickup was stolen Wednesday night or Thursday morning from 2506 Third Ave. S.W. The truck, worth $12,000, had $15,000 worth of door hardware in it.
Also, a Ford Probe passenger car was stolen during the same time period from 1416 10th Ave. N.E. The car’s value was estimated at $500.
Detective Leroy Gross of the Jamestown Police Department said both vehicles had been left out at night with their keys inside and doors unlocked. He said both were taken on rides through farmers’ fields and then crashed.
The two incidents appear to be related, he said.
The car was found 5 miles north of James-town after it had been vaulted over a road and wrecked, Gross said, and the truck had been driven into a tractor about 4 miles south of Eldridge, N.D. He said the tractor had been left unused for years and was knocked over by the impact.
Gross said drivers should be sure to keep their car keys with them and lock their vehicles at night.
The thefts are under investigation by the Jamestown Police Department and Stutsman County Sheriff’s Department.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call the police at 252-1000.
