Travis Hafner could be on the way back to the Cleveland Indians soon. Or maybe not.

The Sykeston native is hitting .429 (12-for-28) with three doubles, a homer and six RBI in eight games on a rehab stint at Triple-A Columbus.

But Hafner’s shoulder is still sore, according to the team’s Web site.

The rehab assignment runs out on Wednesday, at which point the Indians will have to make a decision on whether or not he’s ready to return. If not, Hafner would get more treatment on the ailing shoulder and start the rehab process over.

The Indians also placed outfielder Grady Sizemore on the disabled list on Sunday with an inflamed left elbow. And Victor Martinez is day to day with a bruised knee.
