House lost in Courtenay, N.D., fire

A Sunday fire in Courtenay, N.D., resulted in the loss of a home and some belongings, said Steve Somsen, Courtenay Rural Fire Department chief.

A Sunday fire in Courtenay, N.D., resulted in the loss of a home and some belongings, said Steve Somsen, Courtenay Rural Fire Department chief.

The fire was located at a home along Third Avenue Southwest, he said.

The call came in shortly after 1 a.m. and 18 firefighters were on the scene until shortly before 7 a.m., Somsen said.

He said the cause of the fire looked to be electrical, but there will be no investigation because the home-owner did not have insurance.

Around 11 a.m. 15 firefighters were called back to the scene when the fire started up again inside one of the walls, Somsen said. There were on the scene until 3 p.m. and, at the owner’s requests, made sure the house burned down safely, he said.

All together damages were estimated at least $20,000, said Sue Backer, reporting officer with the Cour-tenay Rural Fire Department.
