Bismarck teen faces trial in baby death

A Bismarck teenager accused of starving her baby is awaiting trial on a manslaughter charge.

BISMARCK (AP) — A Bismarck teenager accused of starving her baby is awaiting trial on a manslaughter charge.

Authorities say Stevie Buckley’s 6-month-old daughter was dehydrated and severely undernourished when Buckley brought her to the hospital Feb. 2.

The baby, named Kyra, died a few days later. Authorities said she appeared to have been deprived of adequate food for 16 days before her death.

Buckley also faces three drug and alcohol charges. She has pleaded not guilty.

In court Monday, South Central District Judge Bruce Haskell denied a request from defense attorney Kent Morrow to lower bail for Buckley. It’s now set at $10,000.
