Commissioner: wind energy not stalled
Public Service Commissioner Tony Clark says the credit crunch hitting companies worldwide may have slowed North Dakota’s wind energy industry, but he says it’s not at a standstill.
BISMARCK (AP) — Public Service Commissioner Tony Clark says the credit crunch hitting companies worldwide may have slowed North Dakota’s wind energy industry, but he says it’s not at a standstill.
The PSC says 488 wind turbines are operating in the state. They produce about 715 megawatts of electricity, or enough energy to power more than 205,000 homes.
The commission estimates that by the end of the year, the state’s wind energy output will be about 1,000 megawatts, or enough to power almost 290,000 homes.
Clark says that’s like adding two new coal plants in a relatively short time.
