SDSU women facing several NCAA teams

A half dozen teams that played in the 2009 NCAA tournament are on the schedule for the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team in the upcoming season.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — A half dozen teams that played in the 2009 NCAA tournament are on the schedule for the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team in the upcoming season.

Coach Aaron Johnston said playing top competition on the road and at home has always been a priority.

The Jackrabbits have home games against NCAA qualifiers Gonzaga (Nov. 13 season opener) and Middle Tennessee State. They’ll play at Arizona State, Utah and Iowa, and will face NCAA qualifier Charlotte in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas in November.

There’s the possibility of playing a seventh NCAA qualifier — Virginia — in the second day of the Junkanoo Jam.

The SDSU women had a 32-3 record last season and reached the second round of the NCAA tournament.
