Two train cars derailed on Highway 56 near Fredonia, N.D., Thursday morning, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
No one was injured.
The 12-car train from DMVW Railroad of Bismarck had loaded with corn in Fredonia, the patrol said. It was en route to Napoleon, N.D.
The railroad company told the patrol a derailed bar flipped after two engines and four cars had crossed it just before 8 a.m. The flipped bar caused the next two cars to derail.
Soft ground near the tracks may also have contributed to the derailment, patrol said.
The intersection was still closed to traffic as of 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
