The Stutsman County Zoning and Planning Committee held a final hearing on a proposed commercial wind farm ordinance this morning. The next step in the process is consideration by the Stutsman County Commission set for July 7.

The ordinance sets in place regulations concerning the placement of wind turbines in the county.

Discussion during the latest hearing centered on the fee charged for a zoning application. The draft ordi-nance listed the fee as $1,000 per turbine in the project. This drew criticism from Just Wind, a wind farm developer with offices in Napoleon and a planned project slated for the Medina area in 2012.

The commission will consider the ordinance with a recommendation from the planning committee that the fee be lowered to $500 per turbine.
