Southwest N.D. phone customers lose service

More than 3,000 Qwest Communications customers in southwestern North Dakota lost long-distance service for about an hour, and also the ability the make 911 calls.

DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — More than 3,000 Qwest Communications customers in southwestern North Dakota lost long-distance service for about an hour, and also the ability the make 911 calls.

The problem Monday was centered in the Dickinson and Belfield areas.

Kent Blickensderfer, Qwest’s vice president of North Dakota operations, said the problem likely was caused by human error rather than by a cut cable, as is usually the case. He said it’s rare for 911 service to go down.

Stark County Emergency Manager Brent Pringle said he’s not aware that the 911 outage led to any problems.
