Heritage Center seeks project funds

The State Historical Society Foundation is asking Bismarck and Mandan to donate a combined $1.3 million to the state Heritage Center expansion.

BISMARCK (AP) — The State Historical Society Foundation is asking Bismarck and Mandan to donate a combined $1.3 million to the state Heritage Center expansion.

The historical foundation is seeking to raise at least $6 million in pledged donations by next spring so construction can start on the $51.7 million expansion of the state museum in Bismarck. So far, $2.5 million has been raised.

North Dakota lawmakers earlier this year approved nearly $40 million in state support for the project. It will include a large outdoor patio, a 60-seat theater, new display galleries and renovation work inside some of the existing building, which was formally opened in 1981.
