FARGO (AP) — Fargo-based Hospice of the Red River Valley has laid off 11 employees, citing the poor economy.

Executive Director Susan Fuglie said the cuts represent about 3 percent of the nonprofit agency’s 231 employees.

Fuglie said three workers will be offered other positions within the organization.

It’s not the first time there have been cuts at the agency. Nine workers lost their jobs in April 2008 because of a drop in patient numbers.

Hospice of the Red River Valley opened in 1981 and provides care to about 1,100 terminally ill patients a year in 29 Minnesota and North Dakota counties.
