Warning sirens to be tested

Jamestown and several area communities will test their warning sirens Wednesday, according to Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist. Back in April, because of this year’s extended flood event, the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services and the National Weather Services canceled the state-wide tornado exercise, which includes the annual extended testing of community warning sirens.

Now that the flood event is slowly subsiding and summer has slowly arrived, a test of all community warning siren systems in Stutsman County will occur between 11 a.m. and noon Wednesday, Bergquist said in a press release. This test, at a minimum, will include the sirens for Jamestown, Streeter, Medina, Cleveland and Buchanan. In most communities, sirens will be activated for approximately 3 minutes. If threatening weather occurs, the siren tests will be rescheduled.

The release said this siren testing event would be a good time to review tornado emergency operations plans for both homes and workplaces and decide in advance what to do in the event of severe summer weather.
