Crystal boosts projected payment
American Crystal Sugar Co. has increased its projected payment for the 2008 crop. The Red River Valley sugar beet cooperative has told shareholders the payment will be $49 per ton. That’s up $2 per ton from the projection in March, and up from the initial $44.40 projected during the company’s annual meeting last December.

The Red River Valley sugar beet cooperative has told shareholders the payment will be $49 per ton. That’s up $2 per ton from the projection in March, and up from the initial $44.40 projected during the company’s annual meeting last December.
If realized, it will be the third year in a row for $45 or better projections. Actual payments may differ, depending on processing costs and selling prices.
Crystal growers planted 422,000 acres of sugar beets in 2008 and had a final yield of 25.2 tons per acre, the second highest in the company’s history, for a total crop of 10.6 million tons.
