MANDAN (AP) — North Dakota Miss Basketball Ali Collins is hoping to reach her goal of playing in NCAA Division I by stopping first at a junior college.

Collins, of Mandan, has signed to play at Illinois Central College in Peoria. She plans to play one year at the junior college and then transfer to Bradley, a Division I school also in Peoria.

Collins says the junior college will help her improve her grades to meet Bradley academic requirements.

She says Bradley, which finished 21-10 last year, plays a style similar to Mandan High School. She likes the coaches and found the team “really cool.”

Bradley shares Mandan’s nickname, the Braves.

Illinois Central also is known for a good women’s basketball program with six national titles at the NJCAA Division II level.
