FARGO (AP) — A judge says two people should receive extra money in the settlement of a class action lawsuit against the city of Fargo over traffic fines.
Stephanie Sauby of West Fargo and James Burns of Fargo claimed the city violated their rights by assessing higher traffic fines than state law allows. The agreement reached in the case calls for the city to pay up to $1.5 million, to be divided among some 53,000 drivers.
U.S. District Judge Ralph Erickson awarded Sauby $10,000 and Burns $5,000 in additional damages from the city. The judge said Sauby and Burns “bore risks and burdens,” including public criticism, by bringing the lawsuit.
