ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — Officials with Florida-based NextEra Energy Resources are considering a 100 megawatt wind farm in the Aberdeen area. If it’s built, it would increase wind energy output in the state by one-third.

Company representatives were meeting with Brown County commissioners Tuesday to talk about the potential project, which would be built next year.

Company spokesman Steve Stengel said the wind farm would generate enough electricity to power 25,000 homes.

State officials said existing wind farms in South Dakota generate about 285 megawatts of power.
